While in medical school, Dr. Robichaux and a few of his classmates initiated an accelerated course of training and finished school in three and one half years.

Dr. Robichaux received specialty training in Otolaryngology and became board certified in the specialty in 1975.  He began a solo medical practice in Raceland, Louisiana, that same year.  He served in the National Guard and received a commendation for his volunteer work.  He received an honorary discharge in 1980.

Dr. Robichaux is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Lafourche Parish Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and neck Surgery.  He is an active staff member of Ochsner St. Anne Hospital and Lady of the Sea Hospital.  He is also a Courtesy Staff member of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

In 1991, Dr Robichaux was recognized as “Citizen of the Year” by the Central Lafourche Chamber of Commerce.  He was the founder of The Alliance of Concerned Citizens and received a letter of commendation from the Secretary of the Department of Justice in 1993, for assisting in exposing public corruption in Lafourche Parish.

In 1995, Dr. Robichaux was elected to serve as State Senator for Louisiana’s 20th Senatorial District.  He was overwhelmingly re-elected in October of 1999.  While in the Senate, Dr. Robichaux was awarded the “Golden Award for 1997” by the Terrebonne Parish Chapter of the NAACP and received the “Legislator of the Year Award” by the Louisiana Physical Therapists Association.  Also in 1997 and again in 1999, Senator Robichaux was honored as one of several “Legislators of the Year” by the Louisiana Federation of Teachers for his 100% favorable voting record on issues relating to education.  He was also recognized by the Louisiana Association of Educators, the Louisiana Mental Health Alliance and the Association of Clinical Social Workers for his efforts on behalf of the mentally ill in Louisiana, and was presented the “Rookie of the Year Award” by the Louisiana Environmental Action Network.  The Louisiana Wildlife Federation presented “Dr. Mike” with their  “Governor’s Award” during his tenure in the Senate.

In 2001, Dr. Robichaux resigned his position as State Senator to once again devote all of his time and energy to his medical practice.

He is now a member of Southern ENT, a group practice of Ear, Nose and Throat specialists with several offices, but based in Thibodaux.  His primary site of work still is still in Raceland.
